E911 Emergency Services Disclaimer
⚠️ Important Notice About Emergency Services
Please read this entire page carefully. It contains critical information about the limitations of emergency calling (911) with VoxioTalk VoIP service.
What is E911?
E911 (Enhanced 911) is the emergency telephone system in the United States that automatically provides emergency dispatchers with your callback number and registered address when you dial 911.
VoxioTalk Uses VoIP Technology
VoxioTalk provides phone service using Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology. This means your calls travel over the internet rather than traditional phone lines. While this enables our simple, affordable service, it also means E911 emergency services work differently than with traditional landline phones.
Critical Limitations You Must Understand
1. Service Requires Power and Internet
VoxioTalk service, including 911 calling, will NOT function:
- During power outages (unless you have battery backup for your phone AND internet equipment)
- During internet service outages or disruptions
- If your WiFi router loses power or connectivity
- During network congestion that prevents call completion
- If the Voxio Phone device malfunctions
2. Address Registration is Required and Critical
For E911 to work correctly:
- You MUST provide an accurate service address during signup
- If you move the Voxio Phone to a different location, you MUST update your address with us IMMEDIATELY
- If your address is incorrect or outdated, emergency responders may be dispatched to the wrong location
- It may take up to 48 hours for address changes to update in the E911 system
3. Location Information Limitations
Unlike traditional 911 or mobile phone 911:
- Our E911 service transmits only your registered address, not your actual physical location if different
- The system cannot determine which room or floor you are on within a building
- If you take the phone to a different location without updating your address, 911 will receive your old address
4. Call Routing May Differ
E911 calls from VoIP services may:
- Take longer to connect than traditional 911 calls
- Be routed to a different emergency call center than your local 911
- Require you to verbally provide your location and callback number
- Not support callbacks if the call is disconnected
Your Responsibilities
By using VoxioTalk service, you agree to:
- Provide accurate address information during signup and keep it updated
- Update your address immediately if you move the Voxio Phone to a different location
- Inform all users of the phone (including children) about these E911 limitations
- Maintain alternative emergency contact methods such as a mobile phone
- Verbally provide your address and callback number if you call 911
- Not rely solely on the Voxio Phone for emergency communication
Recommended Backup Emergency Plans
We strongly recommend:
- Keep a mobile phone charged and accessible for emergencies
- Know your local police, fire, and ambulance direct phone numbers
- Know your neighbors and how to reach them in an emergency
- Post your address visibly for all family members to reference in emergencies
- Teach children when and how to use a mobile phone for 911 if available
